Cheryl T. Hughes

Cheryl T. Hughes of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, formally of Waterford, Ohio, died Sunday morning March 12, 2017 at home after a brief illness. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 30, 1946, the daughter of John and Marion (Healy) Heinz. She was educated in Springfield schools and graduated from Commerce High School in the class of 1964. She enlisted in the Navy in November of 1964, serving during the Vietnam War. She lived 2 years in Springfield, 2 years in Limestone Maine, then moved to Ohio for 20 years, and then moved back to the Springfield area and met the love of her life, Leo Lashway and moved to Sunderland for the next 21 years. After his death she moved to South Deerfield. She had baby sat for Gale and Leonard Hinton for many years and they became lifelong friends. She had worked at Waterford High School, Hills-Ames Department Store and retired from Yankee Candle Company. She is survived by one daughter, Sheri R. Lane of Waterford, Ohio and one son, Erik C. Hughes of Parkersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Kristen Hill, Dustin Delancey and Hailey Marsee; also five great grandchildren, Mariah, Landon, Xzavier, Carter and Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, March 20, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. Burial will be in the Barlow Cemetery with military services at the grave. Friends may call 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.mccurdyfh.com.
