Virgil Duane Hutchins

Virgil Duane Hutchins, 73, of Waterford, Ohio passed away May 16, 2018 at Harmar Place in Marietta, surrounded by his family.

He was born September 14, 1944 in Morgan County, Ohio to the late Delbert and Ruth Barnhart Hutchins.

Virgil graduated from Fort Frye High school in 1962. He served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He was employed by Interlake, Inc. and Central Ohio Coal Company.

Virgil served his community as a member of the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department from 1974 until 2001 and he was chief of the department for 4 years, 1984-1987. When the Beverly-Waterford Rescue Squad was formed in 1976, Virgil trained with the first EMT class and volunteered as an EMT and driver with the squad until 1996. He was a member of the Beverly American Legion Post 389 and a member of United Mine Workers of America. As an active member of the Beverly United Methodist Church, Virgil served for many years on the Trustee’s Committee.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Miller Hutchins, two daughters, Barbara (Barry) Rhymer of Gahanna and Brenda (Melvin) Schwendeman of Waterford and grandchildren, Kendrick Schwendeman, Katrina Schwendeman, William Rhymer and Annmarie Rhymer. Virgil is also survived by his sister Margaret Sue (James) Garvin of Caldwell and a nephew, Brian Hutchins of Waterford. He is proceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward Hutchins and Frederick Hutchins.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Beverly United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Penrod officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 3-8 pm at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Beverly Fire Department, Beverly United Methodist Church or Beverly-Waterford Rescue Squad.
