Roy L. Shields

     Roy L. Shields, 87, of Coal Run, Ohio, died on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Heartland of Marietta. He was born on August 22, 1935 in Parkersburg, WV, son of Floyd Shields and Florence Smith Shields Mason. He had worked at Elston Lumber Company in Waterford, Ohio for several years. He was married on October 31, 1959 to Helen DeLong Shields who died on April 28, 2000. He is survived by two daughters, Zanetta Shields and Sonoma Shields of Coal Run; a son, Lorne Shields of Coal Run; a step son, Hank DeLong of Macksburg ; two grandchildren, Bruce Valentine and Shawn Cobb; and several brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews; and his dog Bubbles. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; step daughter, Roberta Valentine; still born granddaughter, Miracle Ray Suttle; son in law, Arnold Suttle; and a step granddaughter, Heather Valentine.

     A service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly handled the arrangements. Donations may be made to McCurdy Funeral Home, P.O. Box 278, Beverly, Ohio 45715 to help offset funeral expenses.
