Roy "Wayne" Lauer, born on January 28, 1934, in Beverly, Ohio, to Carl and Velma Augenstein Lauer, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on March 13, 2025. Wayne was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his four children: Cindy (Gene) Campbell, R.C. (Teresa) Lauer, Cheri (Bill) McKown, and Chila Jones. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Phyllis Lauer, his close friend Margaret Eddleblute, his granddaughter Kelsey Lauer, his brother Lloyd Lauer, and his sisters Imogene Chandler and Martha Tyson.
A dedicated family man, Wayne cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He found immense joy in teaching his children and grandchildren about the great outdoors, sharing his passion for fishing and hunting. His love for sports, especially basketball and softball, was evident in the countless hours he spent coaching men's and women's softball and playing in countless basketball teams including his high school team the Beverly Bruins. Wayne's exceptional basketball skills and love for the game left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Wayne was also known for being a great storyteller. Friends and family always knew they were in for a treat when Wayne began to weave his stories, whether they were about his fishing adventures or particularly competitive moments on the basketball court.
In addition, Wayne loved spending time at the Eagles in Beverly, where he could often be found playing pool.
Wayne dedicated 31 years of his life to Interlake Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. His legacy of love for the great outdoors, sports, and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Steve Wainwright officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday and online condolences may be made by visiting www.mccurdyfh.com.
