Robert F. Lang

October 27, 2020

Robert Francis “Bob” Lang passed away on October 27, 2020 at Marietta Memorial Hospital just 10 days short of his 90th birthday.  He was born on November 7, 1930 in Waterford, OH to Joseph E. and Mary L.  Arnold Lang as one of 15 children in the family.

Bob grew up on a family farm on Rainbow Creek, and in 1967 became owner of his own farm on Plum Run Road in Waterford.   Bob also worked at Union Carbide / Elkem Metals, retiring in 1984 after 31 years of service as a millwright.  Bob’s most enjoyable moments were in the farming business, tending to his beef cattle, hogs, and crops.  His biggest joy in life was watching his family grow and become successful while supporting them along the way.  He often talked about how lucky he was to come from a big family and have a big family of his own.  He absolutely loved seeing his family get together for family events.  He loved attending dances and gracing the dance floor with his wonderful wife.

Bob was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Churchtown, Knights of Columbus 4617, Bishop Hartley Assembly 840, The National Farmers Organization, Sons of the American Legion Post 389, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3665, and the Loyal Order of Moose 1823.  He was a staunch supporter of St. John School and Waterford High School, as well as their respective athletic teams especially the Waterford Lady Wildcats Basketball Team.

Bob married Edna Louise Huck on October 4, 1950 as only a few weeks ago they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  He is survived by his wife Edna as well as 7 children: Wanda (Charlie), Terry (Karen), Larry, and Gary (Nancy) of Waterford, Frank (Judy) of Marietta, Brady (Cheryl) and Russell (Betina) of Waterford.  He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  He is also survived by a sister Evelyn Neill, brothers Delbert (Norma) and Jack (Janet) Lang, and sisters-in-law Irene Lang, Shirley Lang, and Mary Huck, and brother-in-law Bob Oliver.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James (Marie), Harold (Rosemary), Vincent (Alice), Joseph Jr., Glenn, Gerald (Martha), Walter, and Bernard, and sisters Alice (Edward) Schilling, Grace (Howard) Strahler, and Shirley Oliver.  He is also preceded in death by brothers-in-law Jim Neill, Ralph Stollar, and Howard Huck.

Due to state health mandates, a private family funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. John the Baptist Church in Churchtown with the Reverend David Gaydosik officiating.  Family and friends are welcome to join the church cemetery at approximately 10:30am for graveside service.  Visitation service will be conducted at the Churchtown Knights of Columbus Hall on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 2pm – 7pm with McCurdy Funeral Home as administrators.  Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. John Central School Foundation at 17784 State Route 676 Marietta, OH  45750.
