Monsignor Robert J. Kawa

     Monsignor Robert J. Kawa, 78, of Beverly, Ohio, died on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Harmar Place Nursing and Rehabilitation in Marietta, Ohio. He was born on May 26, 1943 in Canton, Ohio, son of John Robert and Anna Irene Younger Kawa. He attended St. John Vianney Seminary in Bloomingdale, Ohio for High School, College and Seminary. After graduating from the Seminary he was ordained a priest on May 17, 1969. After ordination, he attended the North American College in Rome, Italy for two years. He was pastor in Our Lady of Mercy in Carollton, Ohio from 1982 to 1992 and was pastor of Blessed Sacrament in Wintersville, Ohio from 1992 to 1994. He was then Pastor of St. Bernard in Beverly from 1995 to 2017. He retired from active ministry in 2017 and lived in Beverly before catching COVID-19 in July of 2020. He had enjoyed playing golf and racket ball in the area for several years.

     He is survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Babka and husband George of Byesville, Ohio, Patricia Rusinko and husband John of Cumberland, Ohio and Christine Babich and husband Jerry of Mooresville, NC; one brother, Richard Kawa and wife Mary Ray of Byesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday June 15, 2021 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Beverly with Bishop Jeffrey Monforton and Father Timothy Kozak officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Byesville, Ohio. Visitation will be 2-7:30 pm on Monday at the St. Bernard Church Hall with a Rosary Service at 7:30pm.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harmar Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, 401 Harmar Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750.
