Melvin R. Spung, 60, of Beverly, Ohio, died on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Akron General Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He was born on April 14, 1964 in Marietta, Ohio, son of Robert and Judith Schott Spung. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1982 and had worked at Globe Metallurgical for over 30 years before his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3665 and the Sons of American Legion Post #389 in Beverly. Melvin was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns and had attended many games. He enjoyed his family and taking walks and playing ball in the park with his special granddaughter, Saylor, who adored him. He was married on November 22, 1985 to Brenda Hill Spung who survives. Also surviving are two children, Nic Spung of Beverly and Staci Romine and husband Zack of Parkersburg, WV; a granddaughter, Saylor and a granddaughter on the way named Kinley; his father, Robert Spung of Waterford; three brothers, Marvin Spung and wife Abby of Beverly, Chris Spung and wife Lana of Waterford and Jon Spung and wife Jen of San Jose, California; and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his mother; and his mother and father in law, Larry and Nancy Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 6, 2024 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly, with Steve Wainwright officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
