Lawrence Schwendeman Obituary

     Lawrence (Larry) J. Schwendeman, 78, of Watertown, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. He was born on June 2, 1946 in Washington County, son of Francis and Helen Schilling Schwendeman. Larry graduated from Waterford High School in 1964 and was a member of FFA and later served in the Army Reserves. He was a sheet worker by trade and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Porterfield. He served on the boards of Washington County Farm Bureau, Washington County Soil and Water, Producers Livestock, Farm Credit and Washington County Farmers Mutual. He was also a longtime member of the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department. Larry enjoyed Peanut M&M’s, river cruising, ballroom dancing, concerts and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Keller Schwendeman whom he married on November 9, 1968; two sons, Bradley Schwendeman and his wife Michelle and Kenley Schwendeman and his wife Tricia; grandchildren, Christian, Brenner, Kayla, Averi and Isaac Schwendeman; a brother, Robert Schwendeman and brothers in law, Herman Huck and Virgil Huck; sisters in law, Jeri Stoops Schwendeman, Sandy Schwendeman and Linda Keller Warren (Ronnie); and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father; siblings, Margaret Smithberger (Bernard), Alice Huck, Jim Schwendeman (Elaine), Martha Schwendeman Huck, David, James and Glen Schwendeman, sister in law, Jeanette Schwendeman and his mother and father in law, Raymond and Ruby Keller.

     A private Mass will be held with Father David Huffman officiating with burial in the Watertown Cemetery. The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate caring and support. Donations may be made in memory of Larry to the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department at 12725 St. Rt. 676, Waterford, Ohio 45786.
