Jean P. Chapman, 97, of Beverly, died on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Legacy of Marietta. She was born on May 26, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, daughter of Pierce and Helen Wright Thayer. Jean was a homemaker and had assisted her husband Dale with the management of the Pennzoil gas station in Beverly for many years. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon Ohio and was a member of the Beverly Methodist Church, Member and Past Matron of Mt. Moriah Chapter #506 OES, Russell Chadwick Unit #389 American Legion Auxiliary and Past 11th District President of American Legion Auxiliary. On November 3, 1946, Jean was married to Melvin Dale Chapman who died on January 3, 2005. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Bates and husband Terry of Beverly, Linda Mayle of Jacksonville, Fl. and Carla Huck and husband Randy of Marietta; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, George Thayer; sister, Dorothy Lynch; and a son in law, Terry Mayle.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the Beverly Methodist Church with Pastor James Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00 until 7:30 pm on Wednesday at the McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly where an Eastern Star service and a Legion Auxiliary service will be held at 7:30 pm.
