Harold “Sonny” J. Offenberger, 81, of Lowell, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 23, 2021, after living a full life dedicated to his family and work.
He was born on June 20, 1940, in Lowell to the late Harold and Mildred (Schaad) Offenberger. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1958. Sonny owned and operated Beverly Feed and Equipment in Beverly, Ohio, which now has celebrated 60 years of business. He was very involved with the Beverly-Waterford community, serving on the Waterford Fair Board, Beverly Lions Club, and The Citizens Bank Board of Directors. He was a longtime member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
On August 17, 1961, he married his loving wife of 60 years, Rita C. Brooker. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, farming, auctions, antique tractors, and homemade ice cream.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, and eight children: Derick (Lee Ann) of Lowell, Ron (Susan) of Beverly, Marita (Joe) Stewart of Waterford, Monica (Todd) Hilverding of Waterford, Marsha (Clint) Anderson of Lowell, Tony (Kristin) of Lowell, Amy (Ron) Stone of Ashburn, VA, and Lucy Klintworth of Waterford. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Sonny is also survived by 3 sisters: Margee Tomblin, Joan Dean, and Mary Rita (Tom) Blanchard; and 4 brothers: Richard (Nancy), John (Cindy), Earl (Carolyn), and James (Nancy).
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by a son Thomas, daughter-in-law Teresa, an infant sister Rosemary, and several in-laws.
The family will accept visitors from 9:00 am to noon on Saturday, October 30, at St. Bernard Social Hall in Beverly. A private family Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday at St. Bernard Church with Father Timothy Kozak officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly is in charge of arrangements.
