Harley R. Sanders 77, of Waterford Ohio died on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at his home. He was born on April 24, 1948 in Buckhannon, West Virginia, son of Harley Richard Sanders Sr. and Elona Andrew Sanders. Harley graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1966, WV Institute of Technology in Business Management in 1970 and graduated from WV College of Graduate Studies with a Masters in Industrial Relations in 1981. In 1971 he enlisted in the US Army and served combat duty in the Vietnam Conflict from 1971-1972. He completed his tour with the 18th Airborne Corps Artillery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He had been employed at the Kroger Company for 45 years from 1967 until 2013 and in 1982 Harley was promoted to Zone Manager where he finished out his career. He is survived by his wife, Diana Styer Taylor Sanders whom he married in June of 1987. Also surviving are two sons, Jason Matthew Sanders of Vienna, WV and Richard Christopher Sanders (Janna) of Canton, Georgia; three grandchildren, Kelsie, Laurel and Bennett; three brothers, Timothy Herald Sanders (Carolyn) of Dixie, WV, Terry Allen Sanders of Crawford, WV and Osburn Franklin Sanders of Crawford, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. The burial will be in Waterford Cemetery with Military Services at the grave. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home and online condolences may be made by visiting www.mccurdyfh.com.
