George F. "Ump" Johnston

     George F. “Ump” Johnston, 85, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1937 in Marietta, Ohio, son of Robert G. and Mildred Elston Johnston. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1956 and had attended Ohio University. George served in the US Army and later was employed at E. I. Dupont Washington Works, Parkersburg, WV, where he retired. George never met a stranger, had a good life and enjoyed every minute of it. He was married October 15, 1961 to Barbara J. Duncan Johnston, his wife of 61 years. He is survived by his wife of Marietta; two daughters, Janell McEwen (Ralph) of Mt. Dora, Florida and Jill Hart (Gary) of Lowell; four grandchildren, Cory, Collin and Ginger Hart and Jacob McEwen; two great grandchildren, Remy and Jordan; a brother, Jim Johnston (Nancy) of Powell, Ohio; a sister in-law, Carol McFarland of Marietta and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joseph McEwen.
