Elizabeth McCurdy Obituary

Elizabeth Anne McCurdy, 72, of Beverly, Ohio, died on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on February 23, 1951 in Charleston, WV, daughter of Jack and Jean Nutter Hardman. Anne graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1969 and Kent State University in 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Watertown Elementary for three years before starting a family.  She remained connected to the education system, becoming the Preschool Administrator at the Beverly Preschool where she served for several years and was also President of the Fort Frye Athletic Boosters for a period of time. She was very involved in youth sports for many years when her kids were young and watched them play all through high school, never missing an event. She loved to play golf and did so for many years, staying active in the sport as long her health allowed. Anne was an avid reader, sometimes reading more than 100 books a year, and she could often be found sitting in the sun or beside the fire with a novel in her hand.  She had a green thumb, and her garden flourished with vegetables, herbs and flowers. Anne enjoyed vacationing and looked forward to family trips to Myrtle Beach in the summer. She especially loved her family, and was loved immensely by them in return. One of her greatest joys was having all her children and grandchildren at home for Christmas to celebrate the holidays together, and many happy holiday traditions were created over the years.

She was married on July 1, 1972 to Mike McCurdy who survives. They met in high school and enjoyed fifty years of marriage.   Also surviving are: four children, Rachael (Frank) of Brooklyn, NY, Jason (Julie) of Hermosa Beach, CA., Ryan (Nicole) of Marietta and Shaun of Beverly; five grandchildren, Aneesha, Bryce, Jaydon, Elsie and Emilia; her father, Jack Hardman of Marietta; a brother, Bob Hardman (Kelly) of Venice, FL; brothers in-law, Jeff McCurdy (Diane) of Belpre and Joe McCurdy (Chrissy) of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Hardman, and her mother and father in-law, Charles and Joan McCurdy.

A visitation for Anne will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. A private family service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday April 13, 2023 with Evang. Zack Waite officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery.
