Earl J. Welch

Earl J. Welch, 88, of Lowell, Ohio, died on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 7, 1929 in Morgan County, Ohio, son of Herman Howard and Zora Loene Emerson Welch. He had been a Superintendent of the Washington County Highway Department for many years and also farmed most of his life. He graduated from Beverly High School and served in the US Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 750 in Lowell and was a life member of the Lowell Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He loved to play horseshoes and had been a Hoe Down Caller for 74 years at dances in the area. He also enjoyed going to Florida to visit his many friends. He was first married to Lavis Batten Welch who died in 1983. He was later married on February 26, 1988 to Glada “Dea” Jones Welch who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Welch and Lisa Garvin and husband David of Lowell; three grandsons, Jason Mahoney, Stephen Garvin and Jared Garvin; one granddaughter, Wendi Mahoney; A sister, Rita Sprague; two step-children, Janet Lee and David Fuller; five step grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Joshua and Corey Fuller and Jared Cassity; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lavis, his parents, five brothers, Dale, Dean, Don, Willis and Berl Welch and a step son Terry Fuller.

Funeral services will be held on 11:00 am on Monday, December 3, 2018 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Evang. Zack Waite officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell with Military Services at the grave. Friends may call 5-8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
