Cathy Sparling Obituary

Cathy J. (Coler) Sparling, 65, of Waterford, Ohio passed peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2023 after a strong fight with cancer. She was born on July 4, 1957 in Zanesville, Ohio and lived up to her birthday because she was a firecracker and sparkled. She grew up in Malta, Ohio with her two surviving sisters, Susan Hogue (Wes) and Rhonda Carr (Barry). She was a majorette for Morgan High School and her love for that had her put her daughters in baton and dance. Cathy married Donald (Pete) Sparling on December 19, 1977 and Cathy and Pete were blessed with three daughters, Taneka (Craig) Sparling- Ponchak, Harvest (Mark) Lang and Cierra (John) Lang. She was a stay at home mother until Cierra entered high school besides working at her in-laws at Sparling’s Farm Market. She loved working with flowers and she always maintained beautiful flower beds at her house which attracted her beloved hummingbirds. Cathy would go on to work and retire from Ohio University. Cathy loved traveling and camping. Strouds Run and Piedmont Lake were her favorite camping spots. The family always camped for the 4th of July and said she was a firecracker baby. Cathy especially loved Las Vegas with her friends. Her favorite place was the beach (Myrtle) because they had gambling boats. She also loved amusement parks and skiing in water or snow. She was adventurous and lived life to the fullest. She loved her grandchildren, especially because it gave Christmas time excitement again and she loved spoiling them with mountains of presents. Drew and Skylee were the first round and with them brought new adventures. She took them to ride on train rides ( Idlewood and Disney, etc) Then she got Cole, Ashton and Seneca, then finally she got as she would say , her sweety, Max. The love for amusement parks and beaches were passed to them with trips to King’s Island, Dollywood, Myrtle Beach and multiple Florida beaches. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ron and Sylvia Coler and her in-laws, Donnie and Bess Sparling. She is survived by her husband; children; one stepson, Jason Sparling (Tara) and their children, Alysa and Scott of Massachusetts; a step daughter, Tichelle Carlson of Oregon; brother in-law, Wyndham and Penny Sparling and lots of nieces, nephews and many special friends.
