Betty Rose Obituary

     Betty K. Rose, 98, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Devola, Ohio, died on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at South Roanoke Nursing and Rehabilitation in Roanoke; She was born on February 6, 1927 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, daughter of Charles Everett Kerr and Florence Mildred Dye Kerr. Betty graduated from Shawnee High School in Lima, Ohio in 1944 and received her BS Degree in Education from Bowling Green University in 1948. Betty was a member of the Beverly Methodist Church in Beverly and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority during college. After leaving Devola in June of 2020 she resided in Roanoke, VA to be near her son Gene. Betty enjoyed her family, her church, and the friends she made in the many Ohio towns where she lived and taught junior and senior high Social Studies and English for 28 years full-time, and another decade of substitute teaching in the Washington County, Ohio schools after her retirement. She also liked to play bridge, swim with the other 'mermaids" at the Betsey Mills Club in Marietta, and attend basketball games at Marietta College where she was a "foster parent" to one of the women players for many years. She even went to see a MC men's basketball game and a MC baseball game in Roanoke after moving to Roanoke in her mid-90's. She was a real fan. On June 4, 1949 Betty was married to Clifton “Click” Gene Rose her husband of 50 years who died on June 10, 1999. She is survived by two sons, Gene Rose and wife Linda of Roanoke, VA and Thomas Rose and wife Mary Kay of Whispering Pines, NC; a daughter, Joanne Rose Gregg of Mathews, VA; two grandsons, Matthew Rose of Boones Mill, VA and Trevor Eich and wife Sonia of Waddell, Arizona; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Copus and husband Chuck of Wickenburg, Arizona and Shirley Porter of Heavener, Oklahoma; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers, Charles, Robert and David Kerr.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Pastor Jim Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Beverly Cemetery.
