Barbara "Jean" Baker of Hackney Ridge departed this life to be with the Lord on May 15, 2026 after a long struggle with dementia. Jean was born July 7, 1938 to the late Howard W. Campbell and Ruth Myers Campbell.
Jean was a 1956 graduate of Beverly High School, where she participated in cheerleading for the Bruins. She also attended Bliss Business College in Columbus. Jean worked for he mother as a receptionist at Bonita's Beauty Salon, and in the accounting department at The Citizen's Bank in Beverly, Ohio.
On November 28, 1957, Jean married William G. Baker. To this union were born two sons. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Christian. She was a faithful member of the Barlow-Vincent Church of Christ. She was an excellent cook and prepared meals for many over the years. Her homemade ice cream recipe was a favorite of many as were her sugar and chocolate chip cookies. She also opened up her home and cared for a friend as she underwent chemo treatments, her grandmother, and husband's great-uncle for the last ten years of his life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Sondra Kay Bobak, and several cousins. Surviving are her husband (Bill) of 68 years and sons Randy (Suzanne) and Rod. Three grandchildren, Josh (Caroline) Baker, Leah (Colin) Morrison, and Abby (Michael) Hixon. Five great-grandchildren, Ellie Baker, Harper, Aila, and Jeremiah Morrison, and Beau Hixson, which she adored and affectionately called her "babies." A niece, Stephanie Tenney, a nephew, Derek Bobak, and a special cousin Carolyn Allen. Jean will be missed by her family and church family.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Riverside Landing in McConnelsville, Buckeye Hospice and especially Kathy Mayle for their help and care.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly, Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, at 11am at Barlow Vincent Church of Christ with calling hours beginning at 10am . Interment will be at the Beverly Cemetery.
