Mary M. Brown Brooks, 94, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Lowell, died on Monday, May 27, 2019 at Harmar Place Rehabilitation and Extended Care. She was born on April 6, 1925 in Marietta, daughter of Elmer and Freda Clasey Walters. Mary graduated from Marietta High School and had been a bookkeeper for several years. She had also been a secretary for the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce. During WWII she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Mary was first married to Donald B. Brown who preceded her in death. She was later married on August 7, 1970 to Cecil G. Brooks who died on September 24, 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Baker-Lapointe and husband Paul of Waverly, WV and a son, Steven Brown of Vero Beach, Florida; Several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Edsel Walters of Marietta; several nieces and nephews and her cat, Mr. Whiskers. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a brother, Richard Walters; and a sister Jerry Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Lowell. Friends may call 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Amedysis Hospice. The family would like to thank the nurses and the staff at Harmar Place for their wonderful care of Mary during the last five years.
