Joan M. Barton

     Joan M. Barton, 61, of Coal Run, Ohio, died on Sunday, April 28, 2019, following a car accident near Coal Run. She was born on July 17, 1957 in Marietta, Ohio, daughter of Ivan and Sharon Harris Nunn. Joan graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1976 and received a Bachelor Degree in history and education from Ohio Valley University. She had been a substitute teacher for many years in Washington County and Wood County and had spent several years as a squad member and paramedic for the Beverly-Waterford Rescue Squad and the Lowell Rescue Squad. Joan was a Boy Scout Leader and was the first female Boy Scout Leader in the State of Ohio. She loved her grandchildren dearly and they were the world to her. On September 14, 1976 she married Donald Barton who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jason Barton and wife Ashleigh of Coal Run and Jeremy Barton of Coal Run; a daughter, Dawn Marie Barton (Jeff Mendenhall) of Lower Salem; daughter in-law, Barbara Barton of Lowell; seven grandchildren, Lily, Holden, Church, Aurora, Victoria, Jessica and Jefferson; and a great-granddaughter, Iris; nine brothers and sisters, Barbara Jones, Ivan Nunn Jr., Sheryl Blair, Charles “Porky” Nunn, Dwight Nunn, Shelly Miller, Patti Drake, Karen Hupp and Bobbie Rosenburger; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Joseph Nunn.

     A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park in Marietta, Ohio, with Pastor Shari Dawn Stilgenbauer officiating. There will be no visitation.
