Wallace Hardman Obituary

     Wallace Jackson “Jack” Hardman, 97 of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Beverly, died on Friday, April 19, 2024 at The Pines of Glenwood in Marietta. He was born on December 12, 1926 in Gilmore County, WV, son of Ross Dare Hardman and Ocie Merle Wiant Hardman. Jack graduated from Glenville High School  in 1944 and at 17 he enlisted in the Navy-Officer training program and was sent to college at Duke University to finish the program, studying mechanical engineering. He graduated from Duke in 1947. He started working as a mechanical engineer with the Ohio Power Company while the new Muskingum River Plant in Beverly was being built. He later became the assistant plant manager and later the plant manager for the Ohio Power Plant. He was later promoted to the Ohio Power Company’s main office in Canton, Ohio and later to the AEP Corporate office in Columbus, Ohio where he retired. Jack served his county during WWII while serving in the US Navy. While living in Beverly he served on several boards including Marietta Memorial Hospital and the Lyman-Pomeroy Public Library and was instrumental in getting the new library built. In his early days he enjoyed fishing at the strip mine lakes with his family.  Jack was an avid golfer for many years and played into his mid- 90’s and refused to go to the senior tee box until his mid-80’s.  Jack loved to travel and after his retirement, he and his wife Jean traveled all over the country for many years and enjoyed many cities. He was married on March 25, 1950 to Emma Jean Nutter Hardman who died on December 31, 2017. Jack is survived by a son, Robert “Bob” Hardman (Kelly) of Venice, Florida; a son in-law, Mike McCurdy of Beverly; five grandchildren, Rachael (Frank) of Brooklyn, NY, Jason (Julie) of Portland, Maine, Ryan (Nicole) of Marietta, Ashley of St. Petersburg, Florida and Shaun of Beverly; five great grandchildren, Aneesha, Bryce, Jaydon, Elsie and Emilia. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne McCurdy; and a brother, Bill Hardman.

     A visitation for Jack will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6-8 pm at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. A private family service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Evang. Zack Waite officiating with burial in the Beverly Cemetery.
