Harlan Allen Obituary

Harlan Dwight Allen. 91, of Waterford, Ohio died on Sunday April 21, 2024 at Harmar Place.

He was born April 29, 1932 in Center Township, Morgan County, a son of the late Wayne and Belva West Allen of Waterford, Ohio.

After graduation from Beverly High School in 1950, he worked for the United Dairy during the summer.  In December 1951 he joined the Air Force.  His basic training was at Samson Air Force Base, New York.  The mechanical field that he wanted in was always full, so he took the next opening available.  There he became a Personnel Specialist. His tour in the Air Force took him to England (3 months) and Morocco a year.  Upon Discharging from Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio in December 1955 he was Staff Sergeant.

In 1957 he started working for the Muskingum River Generating Plant (AEP).  He retired from Muskingum River Electric plant in May 1992 with 35 years of service.  Harlan was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Beverly and severed as Elder on Session, He sang in the church choir for several years and a member of American Legion post 389 for 67 years.

In retirement before his eyes developed Macular Degeneration, he loved to play golf, go fishing, and pitch horse shoes in the park with his buddies. One of his joys was watching his grandchildren play sports.

On July 7, 1957 he married Carolyn Joan Myers.  They had four children, Cheryl (Tom) Neill, Waterford, Jeffrey Allen, Beverly, Donna (Neil) Schilling, Marietta and Kelly (Holly Webb) Allen, Belpre, Ohio.  Harlan loved his grandchildren, Krista (Chad) Ross, Tiffany Neill, Justin (Cara), Heath (Miranda) Allen, Kaleena (Ryan) Kelly. Evan, Brennan and McCaul Schilling (Michael Traux), McKenzie (Kyle Miller) and Miah Allen, Mercede and Quintin Webb. Great Grandchildren:  Karlee, Kholee, and Braxton Ross, Carter, Declan, Hunter and Brantly Allen.   Branson and Grady Kelly, and Maylee Traux.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings and spouses Franklin (Helen), Frederick (Alice) Allen and Mary Louise (Elwyn) Bartlett.

There will be viewing, Thursday, April 25th from 4:00 o’clock to 8:00 P.M. at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly and one hour prior to the service. The funeral service will be at the Presbyterian Church of Beverly at 11:00 o’clock on April 26th, officiated by Pastor Thomas O’Connor and Pastor Beverly Pottmeyer.
