Ralph H. Smith

Ralph H. Smith, 92, of Waterford, Ohio, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Muskingum Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab. He was born on June 16, 1925 in Wheeling, WV and was the son and last surviving member of the Clyde D. and Velmia G. Rayl Smith family. He had been a farmer most of his life and during his early years had driven bus for Wolf Creek School District. He also had worked at the United Dairy Plant in Waterford and later retired from Skuttle Manufacturing in Marietta. Ralph was so proud of the fact that he lived at his childhood home for over 90 years. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He was blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors for many years. He was married on May 22, 1945 to Betty Lou Smith who passed away on May 5, 2002. He is survived by five daughters, Dorothy Carnes of Columbus, Ohio, Ann Fogle and husband Roger of Newark, Ohio, Marilyn Smith of Beverly, Mary McKibben and husband Bud of Beverly and Rhonda Allen and husband Ken of Waterford; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Ralph E. Smith; four brothers, Addison Leroy , Lester, Encil and Clyde Smith; a sister Margaret Malone; a great granddaughter, Michelle Fogle and a great grandson, Jayson Matson; Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 15, 2018, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Evang. Zack Waite officiating. Burial will be in the Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 2-6 pm on Sunday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Beverly-Waterford Rescue Squad, PO Box 146.
