Maynard Stone Swingle

Maynard Stone Swingle, age 82, of Waterford, Ohio, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at his residence. Maynard was born May 13, 1934 in Philo, Ohio, to the late Chester and Violet Stone Swingle. He was retired from the Ohio Power Muskingum River Plant in Beverly, Ohio. He was a member of the Waterford United Methodist Church and served many years as Chairman of the Official Board. He was also a member of the Waterford Grange and served as 4-H adviser for several years. He was a talented woodworker. In addition to building his home, he made many items in the home, along with bluebird houses and bird feeders. He liked gardening and growing flowers. He spent a lot of time cutting wood for the wood burning stove. He graduated from Philo High School. Maynard was an Army veteran, serving from 1957-59 in Germany. Maynard is survived by his wife, Wanda (Raney) Swingle, whom he married on April 22, 1961; three sons, Mark, Keith and Thomas; and one grandson, Evan; sisters, Rev. Norma (Rev. James) Mengel of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; Carolyn (David) Roach of Columbus, Ohio; a sister -in-law, Clara Swingle of Zanesville, Ohio; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Swingle and a great nephew Larry Lee Swingle. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Waterford United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell White officiating. Burial will be in the Waterford Cemetery with military services at the grave. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Saturday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly.
