Jean Sparling

Jean Sparling, 95 of Uniontown, Ohio, formerly of Sparling Road in Waterford, died Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Uniontown. She was born May 12, 1922 in Renrock, Ohio, daughter of John and Louie McNutt Hall. She graduated from Belle Valley High School in 1940 and graduated from Ohio University. She was a Metallurgist and had worked for Republic Steel and The Standard Oil Company in the research lab in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star #506, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethany Shrine #4, Amaranth Royal Court #5 and Stark Rebekah Lodge #728. Her love for all Cleveland sports including the Indians, Cavaliers and even the Brown’s was spurred on by her son John. Some of her happiest times were those spent surrounded by her family at the farm in Waterford.  She was an avid historian who had a special interest in the Civil War and in genealogy and was a member of the Washington County Historical Society. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was married on December 30, 1949 to Kenneth Harsha Sparling who died March 4, 2010. She met Kenneth, the love of her life on a bus ride from Cleveland to southern Ohio and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Sparling and a son John Sparling and his wife Donna of Uniontown, Ohio; two granddaughters, Jennifer Monroe and husband Dustin and Amy Derck, both of Akron; and a great granddaughter, Alonna Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Delbert Hall. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Pastor Matt Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday. An Eastern Star service will also be held at 12:45 pm on Monday.
