James H. “Chicken” Pugh, 85, of Waterford, Ohio, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at his home. He was born April 10, 1932 in Palmer Township, son of Clifford Pugh and Mable Dutton Pugh Cobb. He was a farmer and had been a truck driver and bus driver for many years. He graduated from Waterford High School in 1950 and served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Harmar Hill Church of Christ. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 389 and past Commander of the VFW in Beverly. He had served as president of the Wolf Creek School District and State Union president of OPSEA. He had also announced the tractor pulls at Barlow and Waterford Community Fairs for 60 years. He was married on March 25, 1955 to Dorothy M. McIntire Pugh who survives. He is also survived by a son, Kevin Pugh and wife Jeanette of Utica, Ohio and a daughter, Brenda Deming and husband Ted of Waterford; two grandchildren, Michaelyn Boone and Chelsea Boone; and a grandson, Kaleb Pugh; one brother, Kay Pugh of Waterford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Clifford J. “Sonny” Pugh; a sister, Elma Dovenbarger; and two brothers, John and Max Pugh. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Pastor Sam Bartrug officiating.
